Stretched 4:3 vs Native 16:9: Which Aspect Ratio Gives You an Advantage?

Deciding between native 16:9 and stretched 4:3 is one of the most debated topics in tactical FPS gaming. Does stretching your resolution actually make headshots easier?

Visual Target Expansion

When playing CS2 in 4:3 stretched, player character models are stretched horizontally by ~33%. While their hitboxes remain mathematically identical, the larger visual model makes targets easier to acquire visually.

Trade-off: Field of View and Model Velocity

Stretching 4:3 reduces your horizontal Field of View from 106° to 90°, cutting off peripheral vision. Additionally, enemies crossing your screen appear to move ~33% faster horizontally.

Valorant Resolution Locking

Unlike CS2, Valorant locks the 3D world render FOV to 103° regardless of resolution. Playing 4:3 in Valorant only stretches the HUD, not the 3D player models.
